The Dermaplaning Process
Consultation
Though a consultation for dermaplaning in Mason City, IA isn’t required, we highly recommend it. We’ll discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals for treatment, plus we’ll examine your treatment areas. If dermaplaning is the best choice to achieve optimal results, we’ll start your session or schedule it as needed.
Treatment
This relaxing and pain-free treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. After a soothing cleansing of your treatment areas, your provider uses a medical-grade dermapaning blade to gently scrape away the outer layer of dry, dull skin. It also removes the vellus hair more deeply than shaving.
Recovery
Once the dermaplaning is complete, your provider will gently massage a hydrating and protective serum onto your treatment area. That skin will feel refreshed, smooth, and hair-free! Plus, you’ll exude a youthful glow now that fresh, new cells are brought forward. Results are immediate and last 3 to 4 weeks.

Dermaplaning does not cause vellus hair/peach fuzz to grow back darker or fuller. The dermaplaning/dermablading process cuts those hairs at a deeper level than shaving does; however, it doesn’t affect the hair follicle itself, and it has no effect on hair growth.
Because the results of dermaplaning are temporary, your vellus hair will grow back—but at the same rate, color, and texture as normal, regardless of the number of times you enjoy dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning removes the upper layer of skin, which has grown dry and full of dead skin cells. These cells can give that dusty, dull appearance.
These dead skin cells can also accumulate in the fine lines and wrinkles on your face, accentuating them and making them more obvious. Removing those cells diminishes their appearance.
As for scarring—such as acne scarring—dermaplaning removes a layer of scar tissue, quite literally making the scars smaller. It also prevents clogged pores, which are the home of future acne outbreaks.
