The Kybella Process
Consultation
Treatment begins with an open and honest conversation about your concerns, goals for treatment, and medical history. Your Bare Sugar Med Spa provider will also examine the treatment area under your chin. If Kybella injections are the best choice for optimal results, we’ll schedule your session.
Treatment
Kybella-trained specialists are the only providers who can administer the injections. During your session, we will deliver multiple small injections of this deoxycholic acid solution under your chin. The number of injections depends on your treatment goals, and the whole process usually only takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Recovery
You don’t have to take downtime after Kybella. There will likely be temporary swelling, bruising, or numbness in the treatment area. We’ll make sure you understand all the details during your consultation and prior to injection. Kybella may take up to 4 weeks for results to show.

Kybella is a prescription medication made of deoxycholic acid. This acid occurs naturally in your body for fat metabolization. As we age, our bodies make less of it—which contributes to the accumulation of submental fat and the formation of a double chin.
Kybella exists as the only FDA-approved injectable to permanently dissolve submental fat.
Most of our patients require 2 to 3 Kybella injection sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. Each session builds upon the last, so the time between sessions allows your provider to evaluate the efficacy of the previous session and help ensure that any further sessions achieve optimal results. Should your goals require more than 3 treatments, we’ll discuss that at your evaluation session. We won’t do more than 6 treatments.
Your submental fat reduction from Kybella will last a lifetime—if you follow a healthy dietary regimen. No matter what kind of permanent fat reduction procedure is done, any remaining live fat cells can increase in size, even when the rest have been destroyed and eliminated through your body’s natural system.
If a healthy lifestyle isn’t followed, those remaining fat cells can grow enough to replace the presence previously diminished by Kybella or other fat reduction treatments, causing a return of the dreaded double chin.
However, if you follow a healthy lifestyle regimen, no further Kybella treatment should be required.
